Dear Friends:
I’m writing to thank you for the pivotal role you’ve already played to make my run for Congress a success. We have wonderful news to celebrate today, and I am truly blessed to thank nearly 400 people who are early financial supporters of our campaign.
Like many of you, I am deeply concerned about a government that is running wild and unchecked at the federal level, nationalizing whole segments of our economy in the name of stability. (We don’t need a health care system with the compassion of the IRS and the efficiency of the Postal Service.)
No man is an island – and our team effort is charting some incredible early results in this endeavor. Today, as we file our latest financial report with the Federal Election Commission, I think it’s appropriate to deliver a hearty dose of gratitude to the people who are investing in true reform and change for Indiana.
Hundreds of Supporters with Small Contributions: So far, 385 concerned individuals have donated an average of $260 each to support my candidacy since I first announced my plans on the steps of the Hamilton County Courthouse on March 19. Together, at small fundraising events across the district and as the result of a concerted effort by our team, we have raised more than $100,000!
And, unlike our opponents, we didn’t do it by calling on a few power brokers in Indianapolis and Washington. In fact, more than 90% of donations have come from fellow Hoosiers and 70% of our funds come from within the 5th District. I’m grateful for the early support of individuals from Kokomo, Wabash, Sheridan, Westfield, Arcadia, Huntington, Tipton, Kempton, Noblesville, Carmel, Fishers, Greenfield, Fortville, New Palestine, Franklin, and northern Indianapolis. Obviously, ours is a campaign of individuals from throughout the Fifth District, and not an effort funded by the political elite.
Our momentum is impressive: Despite facing an entrenched incumbent who’s been in office nearly three decades — and despite a field that is now crowded with Indianapolis politicians, lobbyists, and attorneys who have their eyes on the 11-county Fifth District — I am very pleased to announce that we have successfully reached a key fundraising goal. You can feel the momentum building, as we raised over $70,000 in the last eight weeks alone!
Ideas Worth Supporting: I’m the only candidate in this race calling for Term Limits and you won’t find a dime of political action committee (PAC) contributions in my federal fundraising report. I’ve called for an end to gerrymandered districts and will work to stop the influence of “money politics” in Washington. I’m very humbled that so many people from across this District and state have embraced my commitment to “walk the talk” of reform, starting with the way we run this campaign.
Experience and Achievement: I’m proud of the years I spent learning about the political process from Hoosier leaders like Dan Coats and Dan Quayle. I’m also honored to have run the Indiana Corn Growers Association, and to meet a payroll with my own small business today.
Congress should not be a lifetime refuge for politicians. As a father, husband, and businessman, I feel well prepared to serve this community as your next Congressman, and I am honored with your support of my campaign. Let’s keep that momentum going all the way through the May 2010 election day!
Regards,
Brose McVey
